GatoNegro: Impact Hot Brand Award 2009

March 2010.- Remember GatoNegro swept last year away with 3 Gold Medals in wine competitions and excellent reviews in specialized media in the US? Well, San Pedro’s most renowned and bestselling brand did it again: it has been awarded the Hot Brand Award 2009 for the Imported Wine Brand category from the leading spirits industry publication Impact Magazine.
This distinction remarks once again the great success of GatoNegro in the US market and the great job our American ally, Shaw-Ross International is doing for the brand in terms of positioning and sales.
The Hot Brand Award is given annually by publishing firma M.Shanken Communications to the most dynamic spirit and wine brands meeting certain criteria measuring growth and impact on the industry (double-digit growth last 3 years; at least 15% annual growth; and 200,000 cases minimum depletions). There are 4 categories: Spirits, Domestic Wine Brands, Imported Wine Brands and Beer. In the Imported Wine category there were 14 winners from all over the world (wines from Australia, Italy, Argentina, New Zealand, and Germany)
Brands such as Diageo, SKYY Vodka, Heaven Hill Distillery and relevant others, figure as usual winners in other categories.
Impact is a leading beverage distribution and retail magazine, published 17 times per year, aimed at top dmakers, who control the distribution and sales of spirits, winand beer throughout the world. Read in more than 50 countries, Impact boasts a total full-paid subscription base of about 15,000 readers. M. Shanken is the publishing house of Wine Spectator, Market Watch and Cigar Afficcionamagazines.
The Hot Brand Award winners will be featured in the March 1&15 issue of Impact Magazine, which will also be distributed at the annual Impact Marketing Seminar, a preeminent conference –already in its 30th year–, that brings together 250+ top key industry professionals from the global spirits, wine and beer business.

At the same category, for New World Winery of the Year, the other competitors are the Argentinean Bodega Catena Zapata, the Australians d’Arenberg and Yalumba, and the Canadian Jackson-Triggs Vintners.

Last year, we shared the honor of our importer in the United States, Shaw-Ross
International, being awarded as Importer of the Year 2008.

This year, Wine Enthusiast is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Wine Star Awards, with nominees from all corners of the globe. These awards recognize excellence on all levels of the industry, from producing Premium wines and spirits to its commercialization. Wine Star Awards 10th Anniversary

For over 20 years of trajectory, Wine Enthusiast Magazine has become one of the most respected and quoted publications in the field of wine and spirits, reaching 685,000 readers per issue.

To be within the five nominees for the best New World Winery of this year is already a very good achievement. But what if we work even harder and continue spreading the news about our wine’s quality, our winemaking vocation and the passion for all what we do?.... Let’s go for the big prize!

Cuadro de texto: San Pedro news at the London International Wine Fair 2009:
This year, we have lots of important news to show at the LIWF, starting with the presentation of our new company, Viña San Pedro Tarapacá (VSPT) following the merger of wineries San Pedro and Viña Tarapacá occurred in December last year. In terms of products, we have also several news to talk about:
* Castillo de Molina’s year of success: the brand Castillo de Molina was San Pedro’s first reserve line and has become one among the most renowned Chilean reserve wines worldwide. Its tradition has evolved into experience in the hands of Marco Puyo, its winemaker, who revitalized the brand to include grapes from the most outstanding viticulture valleys in the country in order to obtain the maximum expression and potential from each variety. Today it offers varieties ranging from Cabernet Sauvignon from the Alto Cachapoal Valley, to a Sauvignon Blanc from the coastal Elqui Valley.
The result is that Castillo de Molina is becoming a top value brand, fact which was confirmed by more than 40 medals and reviews in specialized publications achieved along the year 2008. Some of them:
* Wine Spectator, Top Values 2008 list: Castillo de Molina Sauvignon Blanc Elqui 2007
* The Wine Enthusiast, Best Buy + 87 points: Castillo de Molina Sauvignon Blanc Elqui 2008 (Mar’09)
* The Wine Enthusiast, N°56 in the Top 100 Best Buys 2008: Castillo de Molina Shiraz 2006 (Dec’09)
* Regional Trophy Decanter Best Sauvignon Blanc under 10 pounds: Castillo de Molina Sauvignon Blanc Elqui 2007
* 1865 Limited Edition 2006: always inspired in the brand’s values, the Premium line 1865 Single Vineyard presents its Limited Edition, an exclusive wine elaborated with the best Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon quarters that San Pedro owns in the Alto Cachapoal Valley, with a very elegant and sophisticated new label. A project started the year 1997, since when, these micro-terroirs were intensively worked and vinified separately by quarter. Thanks to the mountain’s closeness, the height (700mts above the sea level), the wide thermal oscillation, the kind of soils and the oenological management, the result is a very elegant wine with a huge fruit expression and ripe tannins.
* 35°South Reserve and the Bi-Valley concept: San Pedro’s cutting edge brand 35°South is proud to present great news every year, coincidently with the LIWF. As last year this brand launched its innovative Organic Wild Ferment Range, this year it proudly presents a new bi-valley concept. Together with a great improvement in the vineyard’s management, the vinification process, and the wine itself, the winemaking team has chosen a couple of the best valleys for each of its varieties, searching to reach synergy combining their different contributions, so now, 35°South is the first brand alluding to the bi-valley concept.
Achieving immediate praises, the American publication Wine Enthusiast awarded 86 points and a Best Buy to 35°South Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2008 (Mar’09). You can’t miss it!
* 1865 Sauvignon Blanc Best New World White: San Pedro whites are catching attention lately, specially the Sauvignon Blanc. In his monthly section at Decanter Magazine about the best wines worldwide, the editor Steven Spurrier talked in February about “a crisp Sauvignon" referring himself to our 1865 Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2008 from Leyda Valley, which he qualified as the "Best New World White", and described as "from cool-climate vineyards just 4km from the Pacific Ocean, this is the second vintage by head winemaker Marco Puyo: white flowers lead to precise yet fleshy fruit with a mineral finish. Complex and long".
* Viña San Pedro, one of the most awarded wineries of year 2008: the pursuit of excellence, quality and innovation, have become fundamental goals for this winery. This is why San Pedro has undertaken a defiant search for the best possible origins for each of its brands, at all relevant viticulture valleys in the region, turning its eyes towards all those emergent, exciting and new cold grape-growing zones, conquering extremes such as the Elqui Valley on the northernmost Chilean viticulture frontier, or the Bío-Bío Valley, on the opposite southernmost corner where grapes can grow. And also, from the coastal Leyda Valley, to the steep slopes of the Andes Mountains, at the Alto Cachapoal Valley.
This effort soon started to show good results in our wine's quality and brand's excellence, something that has been confirmed by the fact that Viña San Pedro became one of the ten most awarded Chilean wineries along the year 2008, according the annual ranking elaborated by the prestigious Chilean wine-magazine, VitisMagazine, considering the ten most relevant international wine competitions.

Castillo de Molina continues in the footpath of recognitions

Santiago, May of 2009.- Viña San Pedro is pleased to inform that Castillo de Molina, its most awarded brand along the year 2008 –with more than 40 recognitions at international competitions and speciallized publications–, continues on the same path this year.

First of all, Castillo de Molina Sauvignon Blanc from Elqui Valley was awarded for the second year in a row the Chilean Sauvignon Blanc under 10 Pounds Trophy by the prestiged English contest Decanter World Wine Awards 2009, a real hit, because only six other wines have achieved consecutive trophies since this competition’s first edition,
the year 2004!

Prior to this achievement, one of the most important magazines in the United States, Wine Spectator, published in its March edition a list of notable Chilean wines under the title “Bold Reds, Crisp Whites”, which gave 87 points to Castillo de Molina Cabernet Sauvignon from Cachapoal 2006. And in a more recent edition, from May 31st, the same magazine just released
its winewriter James Molesworth´s special about Chile, entitled “Chile’s one-two punch”, where he commented that as red wines continue to surge, whites show marked improvement.

Regarding San Pedro wines, the important facts are that this relevant critic mentioned Castillo de Molina Sauvignon Blanc Eqlui 2008 among the most interesting examples of Chilean whites and chose Castillo de Molina Cabernet Sauvignon from Cachapoal 2006 within the 18 Top Values in the edition (with 87 points), wines highlighted by their excellent quality-price
ratio.

Besides this, in an attached note called the “ABC’s of Chilean Wine” introducing Chile’s most important wine-regions, the expert states about the Elqui Valley that “Viña San Pedro has taken the lead in developing vineyards here, notably for Sauvignon Blanc”.

In Europe in turn, the important French competition Challenge International du Vin 2009 and the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2009, one of the most relevant wine competitions worldwide, have just released its results and awarded coincidentally Gold Medals each to Castillo de Molina Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 and Castillo de Molina Shiraz 2007.

All these awards do nothing but recognize and support Castillo de Molina’s excellent quality, in all its varieties.
